Abstract

The harmonization of European law is a critical issue for national and European lawmakers, lawyers and judges. Often legal, cultural and linguistic differences in each Member States hinder this harmonization process.

So, the European multilingual scenario continuously requires translation and interpretation activities for EU law implementation.

Provide new methods and tools to properly translate and implement European law is becoming the crucial point for a further integration in the European Union.

The thesis aims to investigate such topics from a theoretical and practical point of view, first of all analysing instruments for representing multilingual legal concepts.

In conclusion, an interesting case study enriches the research: the analysis of "Legal Taxonomy Syllabus" (LTS), a software based on multilevel legal ontologies which allow to solve the terminological and conceptual misalignment in different linguistic and legal contexts, both at the European that national levels.
